Are You Ready for “Giving Tuesday”?

The holidays are a good time to remember worthy charities. So, in addition to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, we have Giving Tuesday, the “day for giving back.”  (http://www.givingtuesday.org/)

Yes, I do have my favorite charities.  If you don’t, allow me to make some suggestions.

First, do some homework.  Several organizations rate charities; I subscribe to the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance  (http://www.give.org/).  They rate charities on 20 standards and publish reports, both in a magazine and on their website.

Second, if you don’t have a favorite charity, a good place to look is Universal Giving (www.universalgiving.org).  This organization helps people find charities around the world.  All projects are vetted, and 100 percent of each donation goes directly the cause.

Third, small contributions can make a big difference.  If you don’t believe me, read “How to Change the World with Ten Dollars” (http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Society/2015/1122/How-to-change-the-world-with-10).  It’s amazing what can be done when people band together.

Now it’s your turn.  It will make your holidays.
