This is a headline that’s difficult to ignore —
“Want to raise successful kids? Harvard, MIT study says doing one thing at age 4 could make them happier and wealthier in life.”
If you are a parent, you’ve probably read all types of articles about how best to raise your children. But this one is deceptively simple.
Last year, researchers from MIT, Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania found that one of the best parenting techniques is to communicate with your offspring. Specifically, frequent back-and-forth dialogue, especially between the ages of four and six, does wonders to help develop and improve their communicating skills.
Why is this important? Multiple studies support the idea that children who are strong communicators are more likely to have healthier relationships, longer marriages, higher self-esteem and overall satisfaction in life.
That’s quite a list! But I believe it. Whenever I get to teach Language Arts when I’m substitute teaching, I tell students that the key to success is getting people to do what you want, and the best way to do that is through communication.
