Serious problems require innovative solutions. For example, affordable housing.
Start with a paradox: many cities have a housing shortage, yet as the population ages many households have empty bedrooms. Why not put them together?
That is the premise of Nesterly, a new service in Boston that matches residences with extra space (and lacking companionship) with people like college students who need an affordable place to live. If this sounds appealing, there is an excellent four-minute explanation at https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/in-boston-a-housing-innovation-that-connects-the-generations (you’ll probably have to watch an ad). Presently, the service is only available in Boston, but an idea this good is sure to spread.
