My Nominee for Mother of the Year

I know Mother’s Day is over for this year, but…

I’ve been catching up on some favorite podcasts recently, and happened to hear about a tremendous feat of mothering.

We all know that octopuses are remarkable animals. But in 2007, a robot submarine stumbled across an octopus settling in to brood her eggs at the bottom of the ocean. Out of curiosity, the sub’s operators started to monitor her status as often as they could. What they witnessed can only be described as heroic, something no other species on Earth does.

I don’t want to say any more ( you wouldn’t believe me anyway), so if you have 35 minutes, you can listen to the podcast “Octomom,” which was broadcast on NPR’s Radiolab on May 15, 2020, here: https://www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/radiolab/articles/octomom.
