The Lighter Side of Death

“Show me your cemeteries, and I will tell you what kind of people you have.”  –Benjamin Franklin

If you’d like to start the new year in a light-hearted way, today I heard of a cemetery in Key West, Florida that’s famous for funny and quirky epitaphs.

There is the oft-flkeyepitaphs_stevgatt1quoted “I told You I was Sick.”  Others include “I’m Just Resting My Eyes” and “If You’re Reading This, You Desperately Need A Hobby”.

If you’re ever in Key West, the cemetery’s name is appropriately Key West Cemetery, the entrance is at the corner of Margaret St. and Passover Lane, and admission is free.  Guided tours are given twice a week by the Historic Florida Keys Foundation.  This information and the photo came from RoadsideAmerica.com at the hotlink above.

This did pique my interest and, as one might expect, Key West doesn’t have a monopoly on funny headstones.  Another good website is http://www.someecards.com/news/so-that-happened/funny-gravestones-funny-epitaphs-gravestones-epitaphs/ .  Some in their collection include —

“Well This Sucks”

“My Loss, But Your Gain”

“Damn It’s Dark Down Here”

and “I Was Hoping For A Pyramid”

Unfortunately, no locations were given.  I’m sure you can find more.
